CLIL Project Organisation

First of all we want to let you know that we are available for any questions that may arise on the development of the CLIL program at the Institute Schamann.

Coordinator: Mr. Aldo Clares García

Brief explanation

The Bilingual Sections Program, now called the CLIL project, is that, in addition to English language classes, one or more non-language subjects, such as Maths or Technology, are to be taught during at least one hour a week using English as the main communication tool and also using materials in that language.

Whether through reading scientific texts, audiovisual resources, performing different workshop or laboratory experiments, organized activities, etc.., teachers of non-language subjects with an active methodology established in the program will assist with the learning of English. There are also English teachers speaking in this language in the presence of students and work on the four skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening), always adapting to the level of competence of students in each school.

Program development is different every year depending on the availability of teachers accredited to teach it as well as the level and student motivation towards learning English.

During the academic year 2012/2013 there has been a debate on whether to expand the program to a larger number of students, being aware that not everyone can achieve the same levels of competence in the use of English. Still, it is as satisfying to see how they strive to communicate with teachers and students of European Projects from several different countries who travel here, as it is when they work with the Erasmus students who train in our school, and so we believe that the extra effort is worthwhile. We hope that you feel the same way.

It is very difficult to ascertain the exact number of hours that each student will receive under the program, as we do not yet know the final timetable for the next academic year and there are still some decisions to make. However at the start of term we will explain to you in what situation your child will be.

The most significant changes will occur in the First ESO, as in the other groups a working dynamic has already been established and there has been an agreement with the families that we want to respect. It is therefore in First where you will be able to see the difference in our organization. We have high hopes for it. Rest assured that we will make every effort for our students to develop their maximum potential. We count on you to get it!

First ESO

The first four groups of ESO will be included in the CLIL program in several different ways, depending on their language proficiency.

  • In the 1st year there will be two groups of CLIL whose students will be selected according to the results of an English test to be held during the first few days, and who will be taught two non-language subjects in English (Technology and Mathematics or Technology and Natural Sciences) plus the subject of English language. Students assigned to the CLIL program in this way will study CLIL materials in their form group in the allotted home time band. The rest of the subjects will be studied in their original group, which will be fully mixed. In addition to the above, they will receive a weekly class of Physical Education in English with the whole class.
  • In the hope of involving all the students in 1st ESO in the CLIL and to encourage their motivation for learning English, all students will receive one hour weekly English Physical Education .
  • Natural Sciences, will be taught in English to all groups if possible, depending on the availability of the accredited teacher.

The groupings will be completely heterogeneous, leaving the other students in the timetabled lessons as explained in the first part.

Second ESO

Second ESO groups will remain the same as last year, with a bilingual group which will study these non-linguistic subjects within the program: Mathematics, Technology and Physical Education.

Third ESO

In third ESO the groups will remain the same as last year with a bilingual group which will learn in English Physical Education, Mathematics and Technology as non-linguistic areas taught within the CLIL program.

Fourth ESO

Fourth ESO groups will remain the same as the previous year, a bilingual group will study Physical Education, Mathematics and Technology as non-linguistic areas taught within the CLIL program.

More Resources

Besides the above, the center has been requested and, in some cases, found:

  • A Comenius Assistant (future foreign teacher of any material, who has completed training in their home country, and assists in the training of students from other European countries to support the teacher of a group of foreign language students to improve comprehension and expression, in addition to disseminating information about their culture ) . We are on the waiting list.
  • A European project between the Departments of Mathematics , English and Technology.
  • All students have the support and presence of a university student from England who comes to practice her Spanish through teaching within the European program "Erasmus for all".
